Morad fastest in GP3 practice

Daniel Morad set the pace in today's GP3 Series free practice session at Hockenheim, although the fact that the Status driver was one of many to set his best time under double-waved yellows means that the results could yet change

In changing conditions, Morad wheeled out a best time of 1m44.682s, putting him just 0.02 seconds ahead of Manor's James Jakes. But at the time that he set his quickest lap, the yellows were out at the final corner to allow the stricken Addax car of Pedro Sanchez Lopez to be dug out of the gravel, where it had become stuck following a spin.

The track did dry out significantly over the final minutes, meaning that drivers could potentially have been quicker through the final sector than they had been previously even if they did back off, but whether that will be the view taken by the stewards remains to be seen.

Oliver Oakes finished the afternoon in third ahead of Adrian Quaife-Hobbs, Roberto Merhi and Nigel Melker, while runaway points leader Esteban Guiterrez was back in 18th.

The session was interrupted once by a red flag, and despite the tricky conditions it was caused not by an accident but by an errant piece of bodywork that escaped from the car of Stefano Coletti and landed in the middle of the track.
