Marco Wittmann claims Norisring F3 Euro Series poles

Marco Wittmann netted both pole positions on offer in F3 Euro Series qualifying at the Norisring on Friday

The Signature driver spent most of the session at the top of the timesheets, but he was never out front by a comfortable margin.

Wittmann initially held pole ahead of Carlos Munoz, who put in a good lap mid-session to leap from fourth to second.

The track then went quiet as rain started to fall with around 10 minutes remaining, and it was only with three minutes to go that the cars ventured back out.

Drivers only started to show signs of improvement on their final laps of qualifying as the Kumho tyres took time to come up to temperature, but Wittmann was one of the few at the front able to improve, which meant that he grabbed pole for race three with his fastest lap, and pole for the first race of the weekend with his second-best effort.

Munoz was knocked off of the race three front row as Daniel Abt improved at the death, while championship leader Roberto Merhi completes row two in fourth ahead of his Prema Powerteam team-mate Daniel Juncadella.

Merhi will join Wittmann on the front row for the first race on Saturday morning, while Munoz and Abt will lead the chase in third and fourth.
