Kevin Magnussen and Felipe Nasr top British Formula 3 practice in Germany

Dane Magnussen, who has raced here before in German F3 and the Formula Renault Eurocup, put his grand prix circuit knowledge to good use to clock the fastest time of the day in this afternoon's dry second session.

Magnussen was the only driver to lap below 1m54s and his 1m53.965s best was enough to pip Carlin team-mate Felipe Nasr to the top spot by 0.060 seconds.

"I only had one set of new tyres and everyone else had two, so I'm quite happy really," said Magnussen. "We can still improve and I think I can find a bit more time in myself. I only improved 0.2s from used tyres to new, which is quite surprising - there should be more in it."

Nasr outpaced Magnussen by half a second to lead this morning's wet running and also topped the times in the early part of the afternoon session until others improved. A last-gasp effort on his final run produced a 1m54.025s best that was enough to lift him back to second.

Nasr's late show demoted team-mate Carlos Huertas to third. The Colombian bested team-mate Jazeman Jaafar by less than a tenth to complete the top three, while Rupert Svendsen-Cook, battling a sore right ankle following an incident in the paddock between sessions, rounded out a Carlin clean sweep of the top five places.

Circuit newcomer Hywel Lloyd (Sino Vision) was only 17th fastest in this morning's wet session, but did a great job to complete the top six as fastest Mercedes-engined runner.

Rookie Harry Tincknell went seventh fastest and was top Fortec runner, while Double R team-mates Scott Pye and Pipo Derani (who went fourth quickest in the wet) were separated by just 0.002s in eighth and ninth.

Hitech's Pietro Fantin failed to find time on his last set of tyres but still ended up 10th fastest, ahead of Fortec's Will Buller (who was third quickest in the wet) and team-mate Antonio Felix da Costa, who ran at top three pace in the early part of this afternoon's session for Hitech, before engine oil pressure issues forced him to curtail his running before taking a set of new tyres.
