Jelley fastest in Silverstone test

Stephen Jelley set the pace for reigning champions Raikkonen Robertson Racing in British Formula Three testing at Silverstone on Thursday

Jelley is preparing for his fourth year in the category, and he was nearly two tenths of a second faster than reigning National Class champion Rodolfo Gonzalez.

The Venezuelan was the only driver using a Mugen-Honda engine to get into the top 10, with the rest of the top places dominated by Mercedes-powered cars.

F3 rookie Sebastian Hohenthal was third fastest, although he was four tenths of a second adrift of Jelley around the short National circuit layout at Silverstone.

Championship favourite Marko Asmer was fourth quickest, after the Estonian had flown back from a test in Japan to run with Hitech Racing yesterday.

Niall Breen was the top Carlin Motorsport runner with the fifth fastest time, while the team's late signing Maro Engel did not run at the test.

South African driver Sean Petterson was the fastest National Class runner, and his best lap was good enough for 14th overall in the 26-car field.
