Jaafar fastest in Silverstone F3 test

Jazeman Jaafar led a Carlin one-two-three after the final day of the second official British Formula 3 test of the new season at Silverstone today

The Malaysian was the only driver to dip below the 1m53s barrier on the Grand Prix circuit, and his best lap from the fourth and final session of the day was enough to outpace team-mate Felipe Nasr by 0.139 seconds.

Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver Jack Harvey made it a trio of ex-Formula BMW Europe drivers in the top three by going third quickest, just under three tenths shy of the best time.

Double R Racing duo Pipo Derani and Scott Pye showed marked improvement to wind up fourth and fifth - and best of the non-Volkswagen-powered drivers on day two.

Reigning British Formula Ford champion Pye was second fastest in the day's opening wet session and both he and Brazilian team-mate Derani lapped their Dallara-Mercedes cars within four tenths of the outright pace in the dry.

Yesterday's pacesetter Carlos Huertas ended up sixth fastest, less than four hundredths of a second slower than Pye and just over half a tenth faster than the similar Dallara-VW of team-mate Kevin Magnussen.

T-Sport's Menasheh Idafar showed strongly on day two to go eighth fastest, after topping the times in the penultimate session of the test.

Pietro Fantin (Hitech), Rupert Svendsen-Cook (Carlin) and Hywel Lloyd (Sino Vision) rounded out the top 11 places, which were all covered by less than six tenths of a second around the 3.66-mile circuit.

Frontrunning squad Fortec again struggled to get within a second of the outright pace with its trio of Dallara-Mercedes. Lucas Foresti was fastest in the morning's wet session but was 0.979s adrift in 12th in the dry, while team-mates Harry Tincknell and Will Buller were 14th and 15th, 1.312s and 1.594s off the pace respectively.
