Huertas leads as Carlin dominates

Carlin locked out the top five places during the first day of the second official British Formula 3 test of the season at Silverstone today

Huertas leads as Carlin dominates

Colombian driver Carlos Huertas led the way - posting a 1m52.564s best lap in the first of three sessions held on the Grand Prix circuit. This put him just one hundredth of a second clear of team-mate Felipe Nasr, who topped both days of the previous week's test at Rockingham.

"I was fastest on my first set of [new] tyres but spun trying to better my time on my second set," said Huertas. "But it was good - we made changes to the car and we improved."

Malaysian racer Jazeman Jaafar went third quickest with a best lap in the final session a further 0.264s back. Team-mates Kevin Magnussen and Rupert Svendsen-Cook were next, both posting times half a second adrift of the outright pace.

Brazilian racer Pietro Fantin continued his strong start to official pre-season testing by posting the sixth fastest time for Hitech and again outpacing team-mate Riki Christodoulou. This pair sandwiched Carlin rookie Jack Harvey in seventh.

Double R Racing duo Pipo Derani and Scott Pye both lapped within a second of Huertas to round out the top 10, while rival squad Fortec struggled for speed at the Northamptonshire venue. Lucas Foresti, Harry Tincknell and Will Buller all failed to get within a second of the fastest time and wound up outside the top 10.
