Harry Tincknell breaks his 2012 duck in British Formula 3 race two at Rockingham
Harry Tincknell led the reversed-grid British Formula 3 International Series race at Rockingham all the way from the front row for his first win of the 2012 season
The Devon man kept Brazilian Pietro Fantin at arm's length throughout after both got the jump on poleman Nick McBride at the start.
"This is a big weight off my shoulders," said Tincknell, "because the first few rounds this year could have gone a bit better. It was all about the start."
Behind Tincknell and Fantin, Jack Harvey completed a podium trio for the Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen team.
He fought ahead of Hannes van Asseldonk with a bold move into the Tarzan hairpin on the first lap, before demoting McBride for third.
There was drama before the start, when officials made a last-minute decision to rescind T-Sport driver McBride's 30-second track-limits penalty from race one. That meant McBride was reclassified eighth in the first race and therefore inherited reversed-grid pole, while Pipo Derani was wheeled back to ninth from pole.
Carlos Sainz Jr's similar penalty was not revoked, although at one point he was pushed onto pole before being relegated back down the grid.
Felix Serralles led the Fortec Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes charge in fourth after getting past team-mate van Asseldonk, who had Carlin's first-race winner Jazeman Jaafar filling his mirrors by the end. Fortec man Alex Lynn was also close, in seventh.
Sainz (Carlin) spun out of contention in a collision with Fahmi Ilyas (Double R), while National Class honours were claimed by Double R Racing's Duvashen Padayachee after a place-swapping battle with Spike Goddard (T-Sport).
