Hamilton Takes Second Pole
Lewis Hamilton left it until the final 10 minutes of qualifying to show his hand in qualifying for this weekend's first Formula Three Euroseries race at the Norisring, but quickly stamped his authority on the field to claim another dominant pole position
The championship leader had spent the first half of the session at the bottom of the timesheets as he sat in the pits, and just as he came out to put in his first serious laps the session was red-flagged. Spaniard Alejandro Nunez had had an embarrassing crash after spinning backwards into the pit-wall when he lost control of his car as he tried to warm-up his tyres.
When the session restarted a few minutes later, Hamilton instantly moved to the time of the timesheets. Further improvements kept him at the top for his second pole of the weekend. The Briton's best time of 48.874 seconds was almost three tenths faster than ASM teammate Adrian Sutil.
Sutil put in his best lap right at the end of the session, having lost an earlier effort after some wheel-banging with Marco Bonanomi, but again it was not enough to overhaul Hamilton.
Sebastian Vettel claimed the third spot, just 0.013 seconds slower than Sutil, with Paul di Resta fourth quickest ahead of Kohei Hirate and James Rossiter.
