GP3 championship leader Mitch Evans not feeling pressure ahead of Monza finale
GP3 championship leader Mitch Evans says he does not feel under pressure heading into the title-deciding round at Monza
The Mark Webber protégé leads the way in what will be a four-way shootout for the GP3 title in Italy. Red Bull junior Antonio Felix da Costa trails him by 21.5 points, while Aaro Vainio is 24.5 back and Daniel Abt is 35 behind.
With 48 points available on a race weekend Evans is far from assured of the crown, but the Kiwi said he is not worrying about the championship showdown.
Evans failed to score in the second race of the weekend at Spa after a brush with da Costa, but he said he was still happy with the championship situation heading into the finale.
"It's a shame [not to score any points on Sunday], but on a positive note I still have a healthy points lead ahead of Monza," said Evans.
"I'm not feeling the pressure at all. I've just got to compete and do my best. Every race is the same so you have to approach it the same.
"My mentality is exactly the same so I've just got to complete all the laps and hopefully get as many points as possible."
Da Costa, who won at Monza last year for Status GP, said he is expecting the last two races of the season to be very exciting.
"To be honest Monza is crazy," said the Portuguese racer. "You can qualify P10 and with the tow you can still win the race.
"Monza is the kind of track where you can say anything can happen. It's the cleverest guy that will win the race and not the fastest.
"I still want to win this championship, that's what I am here for."
