Former McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner Dennis steps up to Euro F3

Former McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner Jake Dennis is to step up to the Formula 3 European Championship with Carlin

Dennis, 18, becomes the fourth driver backed by the Racing Steps Foundation to compete in F3 with Carlin, after Oliver Turvey, James Calado and 2012 British F3 champion Jack Harvey.

He moves up to F3 after two years in Formula Renault with Fortec Motorsport, during which he won the NEC title in 2012 and finished fourth in the Eurocup in '13.

Although Dennis did not take part in any of the pre-Christmas F3 testing with Carlin, AUTOSPORT understands that he did have a taste of the category with Prema Powerteam at Estoril.

"I can't wait for the season to start so that I can get out in the F3 car," he said.

"Carlin's reputation in F3 speaks for itself and if I can replicate what my RSF predecessors have done then I'll be extremely pleased."

Team boss Trevor Carlin added: "Jake has a good reputation and I'm sure his talent will shine through over the course of the year.

"We're very proud to be working again with the RSF, which is a fabulous initiative from Graham Sharp. We've created two vice-champions and a British F3 champion together and we'll do our utmost again for Jake."

Carlin looks set to field six Volkswagen-engined cars in European F3 this season, with Dennis succeeding Ed Jones to be the second driver announced by the team.
