Euro F3 expects bigger grids

The Formula 3 Euro Series is confident that its grids will grow for 2011 despite the departure of top team ART, and has predicted fields of at least 16 cars with the arrival of two new squads

Euro F3 expects bigger grids

The championship only attract 13-car entries for most rounds this year, and will lose ART's three-car line-up in 2011.

But in a statement published on its website, the F3 Euro Series said that its other four existing teams - Signature, Mucke, Motopark Academy and Prema - had all been retained, and it expected three cars from the latter three teams and four from champion squad Signature.

The statement also said that German F3 teams HS-Technik and Performance Racing would enter the Euro Series with one and two cars respectively. HS-Technik took Tom Dillmann to this year's German title and last entered the Euro Series in 2007, while Performance has been an F3 regular in first Britain, then Germany, since 2001.

The F3 Euro Series has revamped its format for '11, moving to a similar three-race-per-event structure to British F3, and adding two hours of testing before each meeting. The championship's statement said the current level of interest proved the changes were paying off.

"The great demand of the teams demonstrates that the cost reduction measures and the modifications of the sporting regulations for the coming Euro Series season are well appreciated," it said.
