Ericsson to return for Hockenheim

Marcus Ericsson will return to British Formula 3 for a one-off outing with Raikkonen Robertson Racing at Hockenheim next month

The 18-year-old Swede finished fifth in the British championship last year racing for Fortec Motorsport, and has moved to Japan to race for the works TOM'S Toyota team this season.

He has returned to Europe during a six-week break in the Japanese F3 schedule and will race for Double R at Hockenheim to add some experience to team's line-up alongside British F3 newcomers Daisuke Nakajima and Carlos Huertas.

"It's a good thing for me to be racing back in Europe," Ericsson told AUTOSPORT. "It will be good to learn Hockenheim and it feels really exciting to be driving for Double R.

"I did a test with them in the winter. Now they have Carlos who is a rookie and Daisuke who is new to Europe, and I think they'd like to see how they can do with experience as well. Hopefully we can have a good result."

Ericsson scored his maiden F3 win at Suzuka last weekend and is eager to repeat the feat in the British championship having finished second four times last year without a win.

"Suzuka was really good for my confidence. It was a long time since my last win, in Formula BMW. I think I have some unfinished business in British F3 and now I have the winning feeling again I don't want it to go away."

He confirmed that the outing in Germany is just a one-off, but says he is open to taking in more F3 races in Europe if they fit around his schedule in Japan.

"For now it's just Hockenheim," he added. "My main focus this year is Japan and I will do my best to try to win the championship. But we'll see how it goes at Hockenheim and if there is an opportunity to do more, maybe we'll see."
