Ericsson brings forward British return

Japanese F3 race winner Marcus Ericsson will make his return to the British series a week earlier than planned to race at Rockingham this weekend

The Swede was a regular frontrunner as a rookie in British F3 for Fortec Motorsport last season, finishing second four times on his way to fifth in the championship.

He had been scheduled to return to the series at Hockenheim next weekend, to help Raikkonen Robertson Racing's rookie drivers Carlos Huertas and Daisuke Nakajima, but he has brought that return forward after the team failed to find a suitable venue for him to test at ahead of the Hockenheim round.

"We couldn't get a test anywhere, there were no circuits available, so we just brought Marcus here for a bit of practice before Hockenheim," said team boss Anthony Hieatt. "He was only going to do the test originally, but once we got here we thought we might as well have him racing."

Ericsson showed strong pace on his return to British F3 and set fifth fastest time in today's test, just two tenths slower than pacesetter Nick Tandy and almost two tenths clear of his Double R team-mates.
