Electric Watts

Autosport.com's Formula 3 columnist Danny Watts is facing a crunch weekend at Snetterton. His finances have all but run dry, but a good result could attract the much-needed backing he needs to finish the season with the Lola-Dome squad

This weekend is going to be a very important weekend for us as it could be our last if we don't source any more sponsorship to continue the programme.

I foresee a very busy weekend, as we have the cancelled Silverstone race on the Saturday evening after our usual twin 25-minute qualifying sessions, along with the two races on Sunday. Friday morning's three-hour test will give us more time to develop the car, which is improving all the time.

Lola are based in Huntingdon so Snetterton is effectively our home circuit. It is where we have done the majority of testing, so we have high hopes for three strong finishes to boost our points situation and to underline the potential that I know the car has.

Obviously we missed Knockhill, so since Croft the car has been at the Lola factory where Adam Airey and Julian Cooper (our chief engineers) have been working away in the wind tunnel and seven-post rig, learning more things about the car, making new development parts and moving the car forward as much as possible. The commitment behind the car at the Lola base is very impressive indeed, and given more time and testing I am sure we will be knocking on the door that leads upstairs to the podium!

On Wednesday I was a guest of the Jordan F1 Team at Silverstone for testing and from the lap times it's a mind-blowing thought that F1 cars are 24 seconds faster than our F3 cars around the Grand Prix circuit!

Watching from the outside of Becketts you can see the drivers and cars right on the limit, and its very understandable to see the difference in speed and grip levels. It's just another huge incentive to succeed in F3 and work that little bit harder and get to the pinnacle of the sport I love...
