Dallara 'Not to Blame'

Chassis manufacturer Dallara have told Autosport-Atlas they are not to blame for the eight disqualifications from yesterday's F3 Euroseries race at Spa

All eight disqualified cars, including race-winner Lewis Hamilton, were Dallara F305s. They were thrown out of yesterday's race because the central part of their rear diffusers was too large. F3 Euroseries technical regulations say that it must be under 300 mm, however, the excluded cars were up to 15 mm over the limit.

Dallara's F3 project manager Jos Claes said it was up to the teams to check their diffusers.

"It is not something that is our fault," Claes said. "It is a standard part. All teams will have received their car within the legal limit and somehow these diffusers have become deformed.

"This will not have happened just through normal driving. There has to have been another reason such as going into a gravel trap. They have got out of shape and then not been repaired carefully enough. It is easy to repair but teams have not been checking that they are within the limits.

"It is possible they could have been like this for a while and obviously the scrutineers at Spa thought it was time to check them."

Claes says that there is no question of the teams trying to cheat.

"It is very stupid, because there is no way they would have done this intentionally. The diffuser is so finely modelled in the windtunnel that they probably wouldn't have got an advantage from this. It could have even hurt them, but the problem is we will only know if there was a gain if we put the car back in the windtunnel."
