Da Costa earns first Euro F3 win

Antonio Felix da Costa took his maiden Formula 3 Euro Series victory in the second race of the weekend at the Nurburgring, which was put back from its morning timeslot to the afternoon due to severe weather delays

Motopark driver da Costa took the lead from polesitter Jim Pla at the start, and was never headed from there.

He managed to get a clear jump on the pack on an early race restart to gain some breathing space, but he then had to hold off series frontrunner Marco Wittmann in the closing stages.

Wittmann used the restart - which came after a startline collision between Mika Maki and Christopher Zanella - to pass Pla for second, and then set about catching da Costa.

Pla lost another place to Alexander Sims just a couple of corners later, but the British driver was unable to keep pace with the top two and had to settle for a lonely third.

That was the end of the action, as overtaking proved too difficult. Pla was able to hold off Roberto Merhi and championship leader Edoardo Mortara, who completed the points.

Behind Mortara, Valtteri Bottas recovered to seventh after stalling from third on the grid.
