Bridger splits with West-Tec

Reigning British F3 National Class champion Jay Bridger has split from newcomers Team West-Tec after just one race

Bridger had stepped up to the main class of British F3 this season with his own Mygale Mugen-Honda, prepared by Gavin Wills' squad on a race-by-race deal.

The team only took delivery of the car on the eve of the penultimate pre-season test at Rockingham last month, and managed only 16 laps between then and the first round at Oulton Park two weeks ago, because of installation issues and teething troubles with the car.

An ongoing electrical issue at Oulton stymied Bridger's challenge there and forced him to retire from race two. He also missed the latest official test at Silverstone last Thursday (April 16) and is now looking for another team to run the car for the rest of the year.

"We have split from West-Tec but it's a mutual thing," said Bridger. "I wasn't happy with the situation, they weren't happy with the situation, but we parted on good terms.

"Everyone could see what was going on with the car breaking down all the time, but these things happen. I know it's difficult for a new team, but I didn't feel we were going to make the progress we need to make.

"Now it's a case of moving on, I've got a few options but I don't know if we'll be out at [the next round at] Silverstone. Whatever we do it has to be for the full season because I know we have a good car and I want to do Mygale and Honda proud."
