Brands Hatch European F3: Marciello stripped of race-three win
Formula 3 European Championship leader Raffaele Marciello has been excluded from his victory in Sunday morning's race at Brands Hatch
Scrutineers found that the width of his first-gear ratio was below the minimum allowed measurement of 12.75mm.
The foundations of the Italian's victory were laid when he beat poleman Alex Lynn away from the start. Lynn subsequently spun out of second place while chasing the Ferrari protege.
Rene Rosin, team manager of the Prema Powerteam squad that runs Marciello, told AUTOSPORT: "First of all, I have to say that the scrutineers and stewards did their job. We made a mistake, putting in a ratio we use in testing [from the older-generation car] for today's race. There is nothing more to add.
"From our side, I'm happy that there is technical and sporting fairness in the championship. On the other hand I'm pissed off because we made a mistake."
Rosin added that the ratio was used only in Marciello's Dallara-Mercedes, and not the sister cars of Lynn, Lucas Auer and Eddie Cheever.
The exclusion means that Austrian Auer inherits his maiden F3 European Championship victory, with Harry Tincknell moving up to second and Felix Rosenqvist to third.
