Blomqvist chooses German F3
Reigning Formula Renault UK champion Tom Blomqvist will step up to Formula 3 this season - in the German F3 Cup
The 17-year-old Cambridge-born Anglo-Swede will race a Volkswagen-engined Dallara run by the Swedish-owned Performance Racing team.
While German F3 caters for the older 2005-07 generation of cars, Blomqvist will dovetail this programme with a campaign in the inaugural FIA F3 International Trophy in a new-spec Dallara-VW, which will also be run by Performance.
"I am very excited to be racing in German F3 this year," said Blomqvist, the son of 1984 World Rally champion Stig Blomqvist. "The key for both myself and my management is for me to develop as much as possible in the coming two to three years. This year in German F3 is the next step of our long-term plan to do that.
"This season will give me the opportunity to get a massive amount of miles under my belt and I am confident that with Performance Racing we make an excellent team that has what it takes to win the title."
Performance already has pedigree as a race-winning team in German F3: last year it carried Felix Rosenqvist - winner of the 2009 Swedish Formula Renault Championship, in which Blomqvist placed third - to two race wins.
