Bianchi accepts blame for defeat

Championship leader Jules Bianchi has admitted that it was his error that prevented him from sealing the Formula 3 Euro Series title at Dijon today

The ART driver was leading the race when a safety car was deployed following Renger van der Zande crashing out at Turn 1. At the ensuing restart Bianchi mistimed his getaway, forcing him to brake on the straight to avoid passing the safety car before it entered the pits.

This caused the three cars directly behind Bianchi - Jean Karl Vernay, Valtteri Bottas and Mika Maki - to take avoiding action and handed fifth-placed Christian Vietoris an unexpected run into the lead at the first corner.

"It's my fault," said a clearly disconsolate Bianchi. "I did the mistake as I pushed too hard before the safety car had gone in. It would have been nice to win the championship today in France. I hope I can do it tomorrow."

Vietoris needs to win tomorrow's race - from eighth on the grid - with Bianchi outside the top six to take the title down to the final round at Hockenheim.
