ART driver Nirei Fukuzumi leads day one of GP3 test at Estoril

The 19-year-old Japanese Formula 3 graduate set his best time in the afternoon session, which featured laptimes nearly a second faster than those posted in the morning.

Fukuzumi ended up just 16 thousandths faster than Jake Dennis's Arden machine.

The top four were covered by just nine hundredths of a second, with Alexander Albon and Charles Leclerc making it three ART cars in the top four.

Arden International's Jack Aitken and DAMS driver Jake Hughes rounded out the top six, both lapping around a quarter-of-a-second off the pace.

The morning session was topped by Campos Racing driver Steijn Schothorst, who was only nineteenth in the afternoon, with Dennis and Albon completing the top three.

Fukuzumi was seventh, two seconds off the time he set in the afternoon session.

There were two red flags during the morning session, the first triggered when Tatiana Calderon's Arden car stopped with a technical problem and the second when Konstantin Tereshchenko put his Campos Racing car in the gravel.

Tereshchenko then caused another red flag in the afternoon, this time for technical reasons.

The test will last three days, concluding on Thursday.
