Antinucci lands TOM'S drive
American Formula 3 racer Richard Antinucci has joined TOM'S to drive a Toyota-powered Dallara in the 2004 All Japan F3 Championship
Antinucci has competed in the British series for the past two years and won the prestigious 2003 Blue Riband Formula 3 challenge for the races in Macau and Korea.
"The chance to race a Formula 3 car in Japan is a fantastic opportunity for me," he said. "I am delighted to have been chosen by TOM'S to join their team. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous experiences in Japan racing karts and after successes in various racing categories in Europe, I am relishing the challenge of racing in F3 with a team of such good pedigree."
Juichi Isobe, a director of TOM'S, commented: "We are delighted to welcome Richard to the Toyota family. We have been watching his racing career and were particularly impressed with his performances in Macau and Korea. Here in Japan our Formula 3 series is very competitive and so we need a driver of the highest possible calibre. We feel we have found this in Richard and are hopeful we will have a very productive and successful season with him."
TOM'S won the championship last year with Australian driver James Courtney. Antinucci, who has flown out to Japan this week to join the team, is not the first driver in his family to race a Toyota powered car in Japan. His uncle, Ross Cheever, drove for the marque in the eighties and won the F3 championship in 1987.
