Current Affairs Podcast: The 2021 Formula E season preview

The 2021 Formula E season finally gets underway this week in Saudi Arabia, with the championship hosting its first ever night races for the double-header Diriyah E-Prix

Although DS Techeetah has been the benchmark for the past three seasons, no fewer than nine teams could expect to be in contention for a win at some stage this year.

The final classification from pre-season testing had just 0.8 seconds covering the entire 24-car field, which tees up the most competitive campaign to date for the electric championship.

But it will be the off-track talking points that dominate the headlines this year, as Formula E works to finalise its Gen3 rules and formalise the teams' future commitment to the series, as well as announcing more races for 2021.

To preview the year lying in wait, Autosport Formula E correspondent Matt Kew is joined by Autosport Grand Prix Editor Alex Kalinauckas for the latest edition of the Current Affairs podcast.

They analyse the credentials for the teams expected to be in title contention, explain the difficulties Formula E faces in announcing the second half of the calendar and discuss the main points of focus for the Gen3 regulations.
