Hannes van Asseldonk will switch to the British Formula 3 Championship with Fortec Motorsport this year.
The 20-year-old Dutchman, who was the runner-up in the New Zealand-based Toyota Racing Series earlier this year, will drive one of the team's new Mercedes-engined Dallara F312s alongside Briton Alex Lynn, Brazilian Pipo Derani and Puerto Rican Felix Serralles.
"I am very glad that we were able to conclude a deal with Fortec Motorsport," said van Asseldonk.
"After my second place finish in the Toyota Racing Series, there were many teams interested in me, but I opted for Fortec Motorsport because it is a highly professional and motivated team. British Formula 3 is also a great championship. In recent years we have seen different names from this class stepping up to Formula 1, which is of course my ultimate goal."
Van Asseldonk finished fifth in German F3 last year and also took a fastest lap on his British championship debut - a one-off appearance at Spa.
He added fifth place at the end of season Macau Grand Prix and then won three times on his way to the runner-up spot in the TRS.
