F4 frontrunner Vesti steps up to European F3 with VAR for finale

Danish Formula 4 talent Frederik Vesti will step up to the Formula 3 European Championship for the final round at Hockenheim

Vesti has spent two seasons in the German Formula 4 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing, and took fourth in the 2018 standings.

The 16-year old remains with the Dutch team for his F3 debut, and is taking part in a four-day test in one of the squad's Dallara-Mercedes cars this week at the Hungaroring before the Hockenheim event on October 12-14.

The addition of a fourth car means that VAR is back to what team boss Frits van Amersfoort describes as "full strength", with Vesti joining regulars Artem Petrov, Keyvan Andres and Sophia Florsch in the line-up.

"In the last two years, we have actively supported Frederik in the development of his career and it has been great to watch him mature, both in and out of the car," said van Amersfoort.

"This year, particularly in the second half of the season, he has shown great progress on every level and we can see he is ready to make the next step.

"It's nice to see another driver graduating from Formula 4 to Formula 3 within our team, which is exactly the philosophy of our single-seater staircase."

Vesti added: "Over the past two seasons, I really have enjoyed working with Van Amersfoort Racing - I have been so proud to be with the team.

"I have learned a lot - developing as a driver and person. It's a big step racing an F3 after only a few days of testing, but I see it as a learning process and as a great preparation for 2019, where I hope to be in F3.

"I want to thank my Danish backers and partners that made this possible for me before anything has been signed for next year. How lucky I am!"
