Dan Wells will make his Formula 3 debut in Double R's second car at this weekend's Brands Hatch rounds of the British championship.
Wells takes the drive vacated by Andy Chang when he moved to European F3 with West-Tec earlier this month.
Formula Ford driver Max Marshall occupied the seat for the last British F3 round at Thruxton.
Wells has spent the last three years racing in China, where he is currently third in the Formula Master series, and Brands will be his first British appearance since he finished runner-up to Oliver Rowland in the 2011 Formula Renault UK Winter Series.
Double R team boss Anthony Hieatt is confident the 23-year-old Briton will get up to speed quickly.
"He's a driver we've known since he started out in racing and has had a lot of success in Asia since he moved there three years ago," said Hieatt.
"It's going to be a big step up into the F3 car for the first time in a racing environment, but we're confident he'll do a very good job."
