Dennis van de Laar will join the Prema Powerteam squad for a 2014 campaign in European Formula 3.
As predicted by AUTOSPORT, the 19-year-old Dutchman will move from Van Amersfoort Racing, with which he has completed much of his single-seater career.
Van de Laar scored a best result of sixth at Hockenheim during his first full European F3 season this year.
Prema team manager Rene Rosin said van de Laar's 2013 performances had put him on the radar.
"We thought he's a deserving driver with plenty of room for improvement," said Rosin.
"He's young and he already knows the majority of the tracks on the schedule, plus he proved to be quick.
"Relying on a talented driver with one year of experience in the series seems like an excellent choice."
Van de Laar admitted it would be hard to leave Van Amersfoort Racing, but said the appeal of racing with Prema was impossible good to resist.
"I can hardly imagine not to be driving with Van Amersfoort Racing, because ever since my very first time driving in a race car we have been connected," he said.
"However it is also important to continue my learning curve and educational development in these new surroundings."
Van de Laar is Prema's first confirmed driver for 2014, though AUTOSPORT understands it has deals in place with Ferrari junior Antonio Fuoco and Lotus affiliated Esteban Ocon.
The team took Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello to the 2013 drivers' title.
