British squad Team West-Tec is planning to enter the FIA Formula 3 European Championship next season.
West-Tec, one of the top teams in European F3 Open, plans to run a three-car line-up in the FIA championship as well as retain its Open squad.
Current drivers Emirati Ed Jones and Canadian Nelson Mason are second and third respectively in the points in F3 Open, which uses current Dallara F312 chassis powered by spec Toyota engines.
Team boss John Miller said: "We've done really well with the Dallara F312 programme, and have put a lot of effort into developing the car.
"The specification of the FIA car has come a long way towards F3 Open in terms of control parts. We'd like to step up, but it won't be at the expense of our F3 Open team - we've spent seven years building that up and we're not about to drop it."
Miller added that the Corby-based team would run either Mercedes or Volkswagen engines.
West-Tec is hoping to run Mason in next month's Macau Grand Prix in conjunction with an existing FIA team, but no deal has yet been completed.
