Two-time New Zealand Toyota Racing Series champion Nick Cassidy shone on his test with Formula 3 European Championship team T-Sport at Spielberg last week.
According to estimates, 18-year-old Cassidy lapped three tenths of a second slower than the Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen of Harry Tincknell, who was fastest on the first day of the test.
Cassidy, who did not run on the second day, has beaten many of the frontrunning European F3 regulars on home ground on his way to the 2012 and '13 TRS titles.
T-Sport team principal Russell Eacott said: "For someone having his first time in the car, and his first time on the tyres, he did a decent job.
"He's a good kid and pretty quick. It's just a shame he hasn't got half a million quid for a full F3 season!"
