Mitchell Gilbert will race in the F3 Euro Series with Mucke Motorsport next year and will make his debut for the team at this year's Macau Grand Prix.
The 18-year-old Australian finished fourth in German F3, which uses old-spec Dallara chassis and turbocharged Volkswagen engines, this year.
He will now step up to an FIA-rules F3 series for the first time.
"I'm incredibly pleased to have signed with Mucke and have the 2013 season already sorted out," said Gilbert.
"The Euroseries is one of the biggest challenges in top level motorsport and to be with a team like this at that level is definitely the only way to show that we're serious about it," he added.
"I can't wait to get into the car and start work with the team next week. I know that we need to get up to speed with each other really quickly to be ready for Macau.
"It's one of the biggest races in F3 and it will be an incredible experience, especially after the debut season I've had. I can't wait for it."
Mucke has run Pascal Wehrlein and Felix Rosenqvist in the Euro Series and FIA Formula 3 Championship this year. AUTOSPORT understands that a three-car squad will be taken to Macau.
