Super Nova Racing has signed up South African Alan van der Merwe and Austrian Patrick Friesacher for this year's FIA International Formula 3000 Championship.
Friesacher was fifth in last year's championship, despite missing races through injury and is tilting for the title this year. "I am really happy," said the 23-year-old, "hopefully we can go for the championship title this year."
Van der Merwe is a series newcomer, having won the British Formula 3 Championship in 2003. "I realise I have got quite a few hills to climb," he said, "as I have missed a bit of testing, but I am excited. I think this is the best opportunity available to me at the moment."
David Sears' squad is a four times winner of the championship, last taking the title in 2002 with Sebastien Bourdais.
