Sergio Campana has replaced Conor Daly in the Lazarus team's line-up for this weekend's Monza GP2 round.
Daly had been with the team full-time this season, but he sits 26th in the standings having scored only two points.
The American, who is pursuing an IndyCar switch for 2015, said on Twitter that he had lost his GP2 seat due to a lack of budget.
"Unfortunately I've been informed I won't be racing at Monza this weekend," he said.
"I'm being replaced due to lack of funding. Gutted.
"Have to thank Lazarus for working with me in the difficult situation as long as they did.
"Can only look ahead. Ready for whatever is next. I'll be back."
Auto GP race winner Campana has only raced in GP2 once before - making his debut in the series at Monza last year with Trident.
This season he has competed in the FA1 series for ex-A1GP cars, as well as starting two Auto GP races in Marrakech.
