Wurz upbeat for French Grand Prix

Alex Wurz is confident that an improved Williams car will allow teammate Nico Rosberg and him fight for points at this weekend's French Grand Prix

Williams are currently locked in the middle of a big midfield battle, but Wurz is upbeat that mechanical and aerodynamic improvements due to be raced for the first time at Magny-Cours should help lift their performance.

"After a positive Silverstone test, I am looking forward to this coming race weekend in France," said Wurz, who scored a surprise podium finish in the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this month.

"All the other teams have also been testing upgrades as we have, but I think we have the car to bring home some points from Magny-Cours. There's one certainty this weekend and that's that it will again be a very competitive field and so it will be another fierce fight for points."

Rosberg added: "We'll definitely have made some progress with the car as our test at Silverstone last week went really well. It's also going to be exciting to see how the new upgrades work in competition."

As well as the speed improvements, technical director Sam Michael is confident the team have got on top of the reliability issues that prevented Rosberg scoring at Indianapolis.

"Reliability is much stronger now than in previous years, but clearly we still have a couple of small weaknesses highlighted by some separate oil leaks that we experienced in practice and during the race in Indy. We now have solid solutions in place for these faults."
