Wurz Sets the Pace at Jerez - Day Five

McLaren's test driver Alexander Wurz finished on top of the times on the fifth consecutive day of testing at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain.

McLaren's test driver Alexander Wurz finished on top of the times on the fifth consecutive day of testing at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain.

Austrian Wurz, driving the team's MP4-19B car, set the quickest time of the week with a best lap of 1:16.052 to finish ahead of teammate Juan Pablo Montoya. Wurz took over from Finn Kimi Raikkonen, who on Thursday tested alongside Montoya for the first time.

Nick Heidfeld again emerged ahead of Antonio Pizzonia in today's session as both men continue to fight for the remaining racing seat at the Williams team. The German driver was over three tenths quicker than the Brazilian, who covered 125 laps.

Toyota's Ricardo Zonta, fastest yesterday, was only fifth today, but the Brazilian had a very productive session, covering a massive 163 laps with the TF104B car. Italian Jarno Trulli worked again at the wheel of the new TF105, finishing a second behind Zonta.

Ferrari's test driver Marc Gene was slowest for the third day in a row as the World Champions completed their test at Jerez.

Tomorrow, McLaren, Renault, BAR and Williams are scheduled to carry out a wet weather test, with four drivers on track.
