Williams: We are Not There Yet

Team boss Frank Williams believes his Grove-based squad have a lot of hard work ahead of them this season before they can become regular podium finishers in Formula One once again.

Team boss Frank Williams believes his Grove-based squad have a lot of hard work ahead of them this season before they can become regular podium finishers in Formula One once again.

Williams saw his drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya finish in fourth and seventh positions respectively at Imola today. The Grove-based outfit, runners up last season, are currently in fourth place in the Constructors' Championship after four races in 2003.

But Williams believes the second half of the season could herald better times for his team, as they continue to develop their FW25 car.

"It's not a matter of switching on a light and suddenly it's all there. It takes time," said Williams. "We can't cope with running at the front at the moment but maybe we will by the end of the year.

"We're pretty quick but we're not there yet, even though I think we'll have a much more competitive second half of the season thanks to the work the whole team is doing."

Williams ran strongly last year but were not a match for the dominant World Champions Ferrari as the Italian team stormed to 15 wins in the 17 races of the season.
