Williams drivers split on Eau Rouge

Williams drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya are at odds over whether the famous Eau Rouge corner at Spa-Francorchamps deserves its status as one of the greatest in Formula

"The once popular Eau Rouge corner has lost a bit of its glamour," reckons Ralf. "Today you can drive it without any concern, as the cars remain stable. There are certainly other corners in F1 that raise my heartbeat higher."

Montoya in contrast, believes that it's one of the few corners left in F1 that tests a driver's nerve to the max.

"Of course Eau Rouge is a true test!" he counters. "I did take it flat three or four times last year."

Both drivers do agree that Spa's long straights could play to the FW24's advantage, however, especially of it's dry.

"I think it should be a good circuit for our package," said Montoya. "It's a quick and challenging circuit and this good combination makes it stand out and exciting to drive - especially as it a long circuit with a variety of different corners so there is a large emphasis on driver skills."

After his lonesome drive to third at Hungary last time out, Ralf wants to be kept on his toes in the race.

"I am really hoping that in Spa we will have a more exciting race than in Budapest, although I have to say under the circumstances, I was really happy with the outcome in Hungary."

Ralf has twice been on the podium in Spa. The first time was in 1998 when he reluctantly held station behind team-mate Damon Hill in a Jordan one-two and again in 2000 when he was third for Williams.
