Wheldon Considering F1 Offers

The Indy Racing League driver is out of contract with his Andretti-Green Racing team at the end of this year and speculation has linked him with switching teams, going to NASCAR or jumping to F1.

Speaking at a press conference in Detroit, Wheldon claimed that he has had two approaches from F1 teams, one very serious, and claimed that talks were ongoing.

"You've always got to have an eye open," Wheldon was quoted as saying in the Detroit Free Press. "I'm talking to some people.

"I was approached by two teams, one pretty strong. We're still in talks about next season. But F1 is not the be-all and end-all. The conditions of the deal would have to be right. I wouldn't just do it to do it. I would want it to be right."

Although Wheldon has not revealed the identity of the teams involved, it is understood that BAR has expressed interest in him thanks to engine partner Honda â€" which powers Wheldon in the IRL.

Wheldon used his appearance at a promotional event in Detroit to also joke about the extent of his newfound popularity in Britain following his triumph this year in the Indy 500.

"I'm bigger than Beckham right now," he smiled.
