Weekend review and results round-up

Red Bull put itself in an even stronger position in the ultra-tight world championship battle by scoring another one-two in the Japanese Grand Prix, this time with Sebastian Vettel leading the way ahead of points leader Mark Webber

While Ferrari could still be satisfied with third place for Fernando Alonso, fourth and fifth for McLaren - after another tough weekend for Lewis Hamilton in particular - left the Woking team on the back foot going into the final three rounds. One important piece of news from Suzuka was that it definitely now should be three, rather than two, more rounds to come, with encouraging signs that the Korean GP track will be ready as planned.

The race will also be remembered for the Saturday downpour that forced qualifying and the race to be squeezed into a single day for only the second time in Formula 1 history.

MotoGP's 2010 title battle was resolved this weekend, with Jorge Lorenzo sealing the championship while his Yamaha team-mate and predecessor as champion Valentino Rossi finally won again. Moto2 was also decided, in Toni Elias's favour, while the 125cc crown looks increasingly likely to belong to Marc Marquez.

Titles were sealed in both Formula Renault 3.5 and the British Touring Car Championship as well. Mikhail Aleshin overcame Daniel Ricciardo in a dramatic wet Renault 3.5 finale at Catalunya, whereas Jason Plato's pair of wins crushed some of the tension out of the BTCC's four-way fight at Brands Hatch, as Plato became champion for a second time.

No points were on offer for Superleague Formula's street races in Beijing, as part two of its Chinese swing saw rain, stoppages and strike threats.

Elsewhere, the world-famous Bathurst 1000 fell to the Holden Racing Team once again, with Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife adding another triumph in V8 Supercar's premier race to their tallies.
