Weekend review and results round-up
While Lewis Hamilton took a straightforward victory and Jenson Button salvaged a very important fifth place, the aftermath of the Renault race-fixing scandal continued to dominate as Formula 1 returned to the track where it all began - Singapore's Marina bay - for the world championship's second night race
Rocked by both the controversy and the abrupt departure of major sponsors including title backer ING, the Renault squad and new bosses Bob Bell and Jean-Francois Caubet got on with the job and with the help of a determined performance from Fernando Alonso, delivered a much-needed first podium of the season.
It now seems that Alonso will be announced as a 2010 Ferrari driver within days, triggering a flurry of movement in the hitherto stalled driver market, which was the other main topic of conversation in Singapore, along with the ongoing FIA presidential race and the still uncertain 2010 team line-up.
Elsewhere it was a sensational weekend for Peugeot. Kris Meeke overcome the local specialists to take a stunning victory in the Sanremo Rally and clinched the Intercontinental Rally Challenge title in the process.
Just hours later, Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin led Nicolas Minassian and Pedro Lamy in a Peugeot 908 one-two as the French squad ended Audi's nine-year winning streak in the Petit Le Mans, although the storm that forced an early red flag denied the crowd the usual epic final stint showdown.
