Webber stars for Jaguar

Mark Webber delighted the Jaguar Racing team when he split the Ferraris and qualified second for the Malaysian Grand Prix. It was the best ever qualifying result for the team, which made its F1 debut in 2000

Varying fuel strategies obviously have to be factored into the current qualifying format, but if Webber was running especially light, he was doing a good job of hiding it.

"I'm very surprised to be on the front row," he said. "The car worked very well yesterday and was heavily geared towards longer runs. We stayed cool, waited for qualifying to come for us and the guys have done a great job for us.

"We started with a good balance when we came and haven't done a great deal to the car. It's been a bit of a tweak on the roll bar, a bit of this and that, but mainly it's been about understanding the tyres."

Talking about aims for the race, the Australian added: "I will be very relieved if we can be second fastest for 50 laps tomorrow, but realistically we are looking for decent points tomorrow. We need to finish the race, which we didn't manage to do in Australia.

"No car is bullet proof, especially in these conditions, and there are a few bumps, which make it tough for gearboxes. Until I see the chequered flag, I won't be happy."
