Webber doubtful of brake lights idea
GPDA director Mark Webber doubts that brake lights will now be introduced in Formula One, despite moves earlier this year to bring them in
The FIA began evaluation of the concept before the start of the season, and some cars were fitted with the lights for testing in Bahrain and Barcelona.
But despite talk that the lights could be ready for introduction as early as this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, the final sign-off has not yet been given by the Technical Working Group.
It is understood that technical chiefs are still examining video footage of crashes to work out whether the use of brake lights would have prevented an accident from happening.
But despite the work continuing in the background, Webber feels that the impetus for running brake lights has gone and he thinks the idea will be dropped.
"I don't think they are getting momentum," he said when asked by autosport.com about the lights. "Most drivers are not keen on them. It's not going to happen at the moment.
"I personally think they are more a distraction than a help. You know where most guys are going to brake, and I don't think there have been any monstrous shunts because we haven't had brake lights."
