Vettel Makes Testing Debut with Williams

Rising German driver Sebastian Vettel made his Formula One testing debut with Williams at Jerez in Spain today as the team kicked off the week's running alone

Vettel Makes Testing Debut with Williams

The F3 Euroseries front-runner was handed the test as a reward for dominating last year's German Formula BMW Championship - and completed 25 laps after his running was delayed following an engine failure suffered by test driver Nico Rosberg, who managed to complete 37 laps before noon.

"It was an unbelievable experience!" said Vettel. "The brakes, the g-forces and the power of the engine are beyond description. Thanks to BMW and WilliamsF1 for giving me this chance to test. The test team looked after me brilliantly and I learnt plenty."

Mark Webber topped the times as the team hoped to put their nightmare Brazilian Grand Prix behind them - which was the first time in the team's F1 history that both cars have crashed out on the opening lap.

Webber's best lap of 1:17.917, set while he conducted tyre-testing work, was 1.3 seconds faster than Rosberg, with Vettel was a further two seconds adrift.

With Rosberg now heading to Bahrain for the title-deciding GP2 race, Antonio Pizzonia will join the team tomorrow.

McLaren, Red Bull Racing and Toyota are also due to begin testing from Wednesday.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team Time Laps 1. Webber Williams-BMW (M) 1:17.917 125 2. Rosberg Williams-BMW (M) 1:19.265 37 3. Vettel Williams-BMW (M) 1:21.364 25
