Trulli: Second Place No Fluke
Jarno Trulli defended his Toyota team on Sunday and insisted his second place on the grid for Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix is representative of the pace he can set in the race itself
Italian Trulli secured the front row spot alongside Renault driver Fernando Alonso after setting a strong second lap in the final qualifying session on Sunday having put in a second-placed lap in the first session on Saturday.
Some at Sepang have questioned Trulli's fuel levels after his surprise front-running finish but the Toyota driver insisted: "We are showing again our good pace and I am extremely happy for my team.
"The team has been pushing a lot to give me a good car and it seems to be very competitive so now I am looking forward now to the race because I want to confirm this pace in the race and that's it.
"I want to go out and do it this afternoon. I couldn't do any better than this with the fuel load I had because we believe we have done our best for the strategy.
"We will see how it turns out this afternoon, but I am extremely happy about securing this second position on the grid. Again, it is the first row and again it is sign of progress from Toyota."
Toyota joined the grid in 2002, a year of domination from World Champions Ferrari, and they have so far failed to rise to the top of the sport despite significant budget from their car manufacturer owners.
