The Toyota team completed on Thursday a three-day testing session at the Imola circuit, home of the San Marino Grand Prix. It was the first time that the Japanese outfit tested outside the Paul Ricard track in France, where they have established their base.

"Considering it was the first time we have driven on a GP circuit this Imola test was very positive and encouraging for us," said chief designer Gustav Brunner. "We are pleased with our current rate of progress."

Scot Allan McNish focused his work on data acquisition and set a fastest lap of 1:28.960, nearly six seconds slower than the pole position time for this year's San Marino Grand Prix.

"The test was enjoyable and interesting," said McNish. "It was very important to try the car on another circuit. Conditions were different to those of a Grand Prix weekend, with less rubber down on the track, making lap times slightly slower. However, we were very encouraged and I am looking forward to Monza."

Toyota now move to the Monza circuit, also in Italy, where they will test from June 11-13.
