Todt: we will solve Rubens' reliability woes
Ferrari's team principal Jean Todt is confident his team will get on top of the problems that have compromised Rubens Barrichello's chances in recent grands prix.
In each of the past three races the Brazilian has experienced trouble with his car on the grid. Fortunately in Germany he was able to jump in the spare car, which had been set up for him, but in comparison to team-mate Michael Schumacher - who has now gone over a year without a retirement - the Brazilian has been most unfortunate.
"We had a little doubt and we just decided to take the T-car because the T-car was available and adjusted for Rubens," he said of the team's last-minute decision to change cars at Hockenheim. "Yes, we have had some other problems. We are not proud of that but we just try to get on top of it, but it's not easy so that's why I say there is still a margin to improve ourselves and that's what we try to do."
Barrichello's run of bad luck means he is currently only fourth in the drivers' championship standings. Todt hinted that from now on the team will focus on the Brazilian so that the team can secure a one-two finish in the series, but at the same time enable Schumacher to take a record-breaking 10th win of the season.
"Everything will be done to achieve those goals," said Todt. "But I'm not going to tell you what we are going to do. We will do what we feel we need to do but we are not going to anticipate what we will do. It all depends; each race is different and we will do what we feel is the most appropriate for the interests of the team."
