Third Place Not Important to Schumacher
Former World Champion Michael Schumacher claims he is not bothered about whether he holds onto his third place in the Drivers' Championship at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix
The German is currently two points ahead of McLaren's Juan Pablo Montoya in the best-of-the-rest position behind Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen - despite his relatively disappointing year.
And although Montoya has firmly set his sights on grabbing that third sport from the German, Schumacher insists that he just wants to enjoy himself in Shanghai.
"I could not care less (about finishing third)," he said. "Right now, there is no challenge in taking that third place - and it was much more important to secure the third place in the Constructors' Championship.
"Apart from that, I simply want to have fun in the last race and get the best possible result. A podium in China would be nice, but after Japan I cannot see that happening because we will not have something new in Shanghai."
The points that Schumacher took in Japan were enough to guarantee Ferrari their third place in the Constructors' Championship, despite Toyota's best efforts to wrest that place back.
And although Toyota publicly declared their intent to grab that position off Ferrari, Schumacher said he never doubted that his team would be able to hold on.
"Before Japan [Toyota] were 17 points behind, and making that up towards Ferrari was as unrealistic as to expect me to defend third position in the Championship against Montoya," he added.
