Lap 50- R Schumacher takes his brother on Caixa and Banc Sabadell, in the melee, Barrichello takes third. M Schumacher then pits.

Lap 47- Coulthard takes Schumacher on the outside of turn 1. Coulthard second!

Lap 46- Coulthard makes a move on Schumacher just before turn 1, but doesn't make it. He is 0.3s behind the German

Lap 45- 20 laps to go and Hakkinen is 12.3s in front of Championship leader Schumacher

Lap 44- Top six: Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Coulthard, R Schumacher, Barrichello, Salo (Salo still to make second stop)

Lap 42- Coulthard increases his lead on R Schumacher to 2.8s

Lap 41- Hakkinen and Schumacher come into pits together. Another bad fuel stop costs Ferrari the lead. Hakkinen in the lead

Lap 40- Coulthard in pits. Stop lasted 7.5s

Lap 38- Wurz in pits

Lap 36- Ferrari Chief Mechanic and refuller Nigel Stepney has not broken any bones after M Schumacher drove off with the fuel pipe not clear during his pitstop.


Lap 35- The battle for third, with R Schumacher, Barrichello and Coulthard hots up. 1.5s separates the three cars.

Lap 32- At half distance, the gap between M Schumacher and Hakkinen is down to 0.4. R Schumacher is another 16.5s down the track. Barrichello is just 0.6s behind the Williams. Coulthard after a poor pitstop is 0.8s behind the Brazillian

Lap24- Lollipop was lifted too early and Schumacher lifts refuller off his feet. Perhaps broke his leg.

Lap 23- M Schumacher in pits. Stopped for 7.3s. But seemed to hit a machanic as he leaves stop.


Lap22- Trulli stopped in pits with a technical problem.

Lap22- The gap between Schumacher and Hakkinen is down to 1.3s as Schumacher gets caught in traffic.

Lap 21- Villeneuve in pits. Stopped for 8.7s

Lap 20- Herbert blue flagged to let Hakkinen lap him just before turn 1

Lap 19- Herbert in pits. Stop 9.5 secs

Lap 19- Barrichello closing up on Coulthard and R Schumacher. Gap is 1.2 secs

Lap 18- Button in the pits. Pits stop 7.7 secs

Lap 18- Williams mechanics come out

Lap 18- Wurz in pits

Lap 17- The gap between M Schumacher and Hakkinen is down to 2.1 sec

Lap 16- The weather seemes to be improving, track temp rising to 30 degrees.

Lap 14- Hakkinen is clawing back Schumacher's lead, with the Finn 2.6 sec behind the Championship leader

Lap 12- Coulthard is putting R Schumacher under immense pressure, Schmacher locking up his tyres in the slow corners.

Lap 11- Order: M Schumacher, Hakkinen, R Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Villeneuve, Frentzen, Trulli, Button, Salo, Zonta, Verstappen, Irvine, Wurz, Herbert, Fisichella, Gene, Heidfeld, Mazacane

Lap 9- Hakkinen is catching M Schumacher a little

Lap 7- Hakkinen, in second, is 4 secs in front of R Schumacher

Lap 6- M Schumacher leads by 3 seconds. Coulthard is being held back by R Schumacher

Lap 4- Michael Schumacher leads, followed by Hakkinen, R Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Villeneuve, Frentzen, Trulli, Button, Salo, Zonta, Verstappen, Irvine, Wurz, Herbert, Fisichella, Gene, Heidfelt, Mazzacane. Alesi, Diniz and de la Rosa are out


Lap3- Frentzen is ahead of Trulli. Button is up into ninth.

Lap 2- ALesi and de la Rosa spin out at Campsa.

Lap 1 M Schumacher leads by 1.1 secs. Barrichello has lost two places.


Start Schumacher gets off well. Hakkinen is second. R Schumacher moves up to third.


12:59 The skies are overcast, with the chance of showers later. Pedro de la Rosa has been relegated to the back of the grid.
