Tech chief backs Lyons F1 bid

Newly crowned Formula Nippon champion Richard Lyons has all it takes to make it in Formula 1, claims former Jordan and Jaguar technical director Gary Anderson in an exclusive interview with this week's Autosport magazine

Tech chief backs Lyons F1 bid

Just days after Lyons successfully captured the prestigious Japanese title at Suzuka, Anderson is adamant that the rising British star will impress any F1 team willing to give him the opportunity of a test.

Speaking to Autosport, Anderson said: "I've worked with a lot of drivers over the years and Richard is one who has really stood out. He thinks deeply about his racing and is tremendously committed.

"He is also one of those guys who, if you give him two tenths on the car, will instantly find it out on the track. He absolutely deserves his chance."

Lyons is believed to have held talks earlier this year with both Jordan and Jaguar about testing opportunities - and came close to landing the second Jordan seat for the Japanese Grand Prix but could not raise the necessary finance in time.

The other possibility for Lyons is that his strong link with Nissan will lead to a test with sister company, as they did for last year's Nippon champion Satoshi Motoyama.
