Teams to test new SC system again
The FIA is to conduct further safety car tests at the end of this afternoon's second free practice sessions as work continues on revamping the regulations
Teams and the sport's governing body have been considering ways to change the safety car regulations to get rid of the need to close the pits during the initial part of any caution period.
It is hoped that such a regulation change can be brought about with the introduction of a speed limit on the parts of a track where an incident has occurred. Drivers will be informed of this through a dashboard readout - and tests have also taken place of an audio warning signal through a driver's radio.
During the FIA's Sporting Working Group Meeting on Wednesday it was agreed that a test on the latest software development will be tried out in Monza.
A statement issued by FIA Formula One race director Charlie Whiting on Friday confirmed that after the chequered flag in this afternoon's session, safety car boards and warning flags will be shown, and drivers will have to select a safety car mode before returning to the pits.
