Stewart Gains BRDC Board Support
As he prepares for a battle to maintain his position as BRDC president, Sir Jackie Stewart gained the support of the club's board today
Stewart is facing growing opposition among the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC), with an unofficial poll reportedly held two weeks ago resulting with a majority of the members saying they would like to see Stewart step down.
But the Scott has remained adamant that he is being a victim of a campaign of misinformation against him, telling The Daily Telegraph today: "This is the culmination of a concerted and personal campaign against me. The members were not given a fair and balanced account.
"I'm looking forward to answering this misleading whispering campaign led by a wounded animal, and putting my case to the members, who after all voted me in as president only last year."
The BRDC board met today after a number of the club's members requested an Extraordinary General Meeting, for the purpose of passing a resolution to remove Stewart from his position as president and director of the club.
In a statement following the meeting today, the board said it "resolved to convene an EGM and to recommend that members vote against the removal of Sir Jackie."
A notice of the EGM will be sent to members in a short time, the board added.
The EGM will have to be scheduled before May 26 this year, as it must take place before the Annual General Meeting, set for that date.
